SHA declares COVID-19 outbreak at Saskatoon Meals Financial institution after three employees check optimistic

The Saskatchewan Health Department has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at the Saskatoon Food Bank.

That means the agency’s building on Avenue C South will be closed at least until Friday, managing director Laurie O’Connor said.

It closed on Monday after two employees tested positive for the virus over the weekend. Another employee was already absent because of the virus.

According to the health authority, “an outbreak in non-household settings is confirmed when two or more people test positive for COVID-19”.

She added that the statement was not necessarily an indicator of risk to the public. Rather, it focuses the response.

Cleaners are busy disinfecting the building and all employees are now being tested.

The prepackaged and canned goods on site should be fine, O’Connor said.

“We want to reassure the public that we will do everything we can to reopen quickly and safely and ensure that our communication is timely and transparent,” she said.
