Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer’s campaign is scheduled to land in Saskatoon this weekend.

Scheer is set to attend an event at the Saskatoon Farmers’ Market at 3 pm on Saturday alongside Conservative candidate Brad Redekopp, who is seeking to defeat NDP incumbent Sheri Benson in Saskatoon West.

That will make Scheer the second federal party leader to stop in Saskatoon since the election was called on Sept. 11. Liberal leader Justin Trudeau was in the city for a town hall meeting last Thursday amid his blackface scandal.

Scheer’s decision to concentrate on Saskatoon West makes sense strategically, since it is the only Saskatoon riding not held by the Conservatives, and one of only a few in the province that are in play.

Kevin Waugh and Corey Tochor, the Conservative candidates for Saskatoon–Grasswood and Saskatoon–University, as well as Kelly Block, who is seeking re-election in Carlton Trail–Eagle Creek, are also expected to attend.

Redekopp hopes a growing desire for change in Ottawa will carry him to victory, while Benson is banking on her constituency work over the last four years generating enough support for a second term.

Scheer, who represents the Regina–Qu’Appelle riding, was last in Saskatoon in July. He spent the first part of the week in Ontario and Quebec, and was campaigning in British Columbia on Thursday.

NDP leader Jagmeet Singh, Green Party leader Elizabeth May and People’s Party leader Maxime Bernier have yet to announce or make campaign stops in the province.
