For the 13th year, the Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Center (SFBLC) is collecting donations as part of a city-wide food drive on Saturday.
The goal is 100,000 pounds of non-perishable food.
“Thousands of people in Saskatoon are struggling with the high cost of living and that means people are forced to make tough choices every day,” said SFBLC executive director Laurie O’Connor in a news release.
“No one should have to choose between nutritious food for their family and paying the bills.”
There are several ways to donate to the campaign, including leaving filled brown donation bags on doorsteps by 10 am Saturday.
People who did not receive the bags can bring non-perishable food to grocery store drop-offs or directly to the SFBLC at 202 Avenue C South between 10 am and 2 pm
“We are calling on our community to show strong support and help us meet our goal,” O’Connor said.
Some of the most in-demand items for the food bank are infant formula, whole grain pasta and cereals, canned fruit and vegetables, as well as hearty soups and stews.
The food bank serves nearly 20,000 people each month, and almost half of them are children.
