Saskatoon Ex returns in 2021 unfold out over 2 weekends

A long-term summer event in Saskatoon could take place again in 2021.

Prairieland Park said a full outdoor version of the Saskatoon Ex is planned and will run over two weekends.

The ex runs from August 6th to 8th and then closes on August 9th and 10th. The fair will then reopen on August 11th and run until August 15th.

“It all comes together, we’re excited to be getting back to a version of the normal and having great summer events on the site,” said Susan Kuzma, special events manager, in a press release.

“The fewer fairs give us the chance to see some big rides and add a day or two.”

Prairieland Park said its plan was based on meeting the provincial vaccination goal.

The Saskatchewan government announced Tuesday that all public health measures in the province will be lifted when 70 percent of the population 12 and over has received their first COVID-19 vaccination.

The earliest that could happen is July 11th.

According to Prairieland Park, North American Midway Entertainment was granted access to Canada for the trade fair season after a corresponding quarantine.

Kuzma said the grandstand entertainment, which is in the planning stages, is likely to be exclusively Canadian talent due to border restrictions.

The demolition derby will also come back.

“We also think there could be two nights demo derby as we have two Sundays in our line-up this year,” said Kuzma.

Prairieland Park said this year’s Ex will be entirely outdoors, with no indoor exhibition or access to the main buildings.

Park officials said improved cleaning protocols would be in place during the ex, along with other Saskatchewan Health Department regulations in force at the time.

They added that masks worn by guests are welcome, even if they are no longer publicly required.

The Saskatoon Ex typically attracts over 200,000 visitors annually and generates an economic impact of more than $ 18 million, park officials said.

Prairieland Park said it is hopeful that if some of these economic benefits are reclaimed, it will spark a rebound for many local businesses in the area.
