Limits
The South Saskatchewan River forms the western limit of horseback riding while the city limits form the northern limit. On the east side, the border runs south on Range Road 3050 / Lowe Road from the city limits to 115th Street East, west to Berini Drive to the railroad tracks, then south to College Drive. The southern border runs west along College Drive to Circle Drive, then north and west to the river.

This is the second time horse riding has been contested in an election in Saskatchewan. In 2016, Merriman Zaigham Kayani of the Saskatchewan NDP won with 2,400 votes. The turnout was 54 percent.

This riding was created with border redistribution in 2012 and consists of parts of the former Saskatoon Silver Springs and Sutherland Ridings, along with parts of Saskatoon Southeast.

He is a scientist at SGS Canada Inc. and previously a Research Officer at the University of Saskatchewan. He is a professional agrologist with the Saskatchewan Institute of Agrologists.
Grewal played a significant role in founding the Punjabi Cultural Association of Saskatchewan in 2004 and was its president from 2010 to 2012.
He has also served on the boards of the Saskatchewan Intercultural Association, the Immigrant Access Fund of Saskatchewan, and Saskatoon Senior Support Services.

First elected in 2011 and re-elected in 2016.
Minister of Social Services and sits on the Board of Internal Economy.
He previously served as head of government and government whip.
His father Ted Merriman was an MLA from 2003 to 2007.
