Morning fireplace destroys constructing close to downtown Saskatoon – Saskatoon
Investigators believe the cause of a night fire that destroyed a building near downtown Saskatoon is suspect.
The Saskatoon Fire Department said they had been notified of a building fire on the 100 block of Avenue B South at 1:41 am Monday.
The crews said they arrived two minutes later and found a fully involved building fire with heavy smoke in the area.

The roof and north wall of the building collapsed 20 minutes after the first call, fire department officials said.
The fire brigade had waged a full defense battle against the fire before the collapse.

They turned their focus on repression, precautionary measures and planning for another collapse of the building, the firefighters said.

At around 6 a.m., the emergency services called an excavator from the city to dismantle the structure so that the fire brigade could extinguish the fire completely.
The SFD said additional crews were deployed to relieve the firefighters throughout the response to the fire.

According to the fire brigade, the emergency services finished the extinguishing work around 10 a.m.
The damage is estimated at $ 900,000.
The SFD said an investigator had determined the cause and origin of the fire but did not release that information. The department said it would assist the police investigation if requested.
