Saskatoon police have charged a man after he allegedly tried to kill someone inside Saskatoon’s Royal University Hospital (RUH).
Officers were called to RUH shortly after 8 pm on Monday, according to a police press release put out Tuesday morning.
Police learned that a 55-year-old man allegedly stabbed a 39-year-old man.
Hospital security detained the man until Saskatoon police arrived at the hospital.

The man is in custody and the police have charged him with attempted murder.
The victim is being treated in hospital and is in critical condition.

According to a response from Saskatoon police on Tuesday, the alleged stabbing occurred in a public area following an incident between two visitors to the facility.
Police say the suspect and the victim are not hospital staff members and investigators believe the pair were not previously known to each other.
Saskatoon police add that this may be a case of mistaken identity, however, that detail is still under investigation.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority shared in an emailed statement on Tuesday that their organization continues to support Saskatoon police with this investigation.
“At this time, there is no information to suggest that there are additional safety concerns for those visiting or being cared for at RUH as it relates to this incident,” the SHA response reads.
“In the interest of patient privacy and the ongoing police investigation, we are unable to share any further details of this particular incident.”
