Demolition begins on Saskatoon’s historic Farnam Block
Workers are gutting the inside of Saskatoon’s Farnam Block in the first phase of tearing down the historic property.
A group of investors are trying to buy the Broadway Avenue building from its owners so that they can save it. But the window to do that is rapidly closing as workers take apart the structure from the inside.
The property at the corner of Broadway and 11th Street is completely fenced. A crew with crowbars and hammers could be seen through the windows tearing down molding and pulling out windows.
Sterling Summach is one of the investors who wants it saved. He knows time is running out.
“Obviously given the state of it, we need to either get them engaged within the next 24 hours, or to hear a definite, they’re not interested, and this is what it is,” he said.
“I know it’s 11th hour, we feel like if we don’t do something, everybody is going to regret at least not trying.”
Calls to the owners from CBC were not returned.
